Happy would have returned as protagonist a second time.
A planned upcoming ninth installment of Lessons from D. Isaac Thomas had its origins late in 2015, at which point it was announced that D. Isaac Thomas is developing a ninth book as the penultimate installment to kick off the would-be decupilogy. On December 3, 2015, Thomas revealed about earlier plans to make a ninth picture book; but due to a number of factors, nothing came to be. The franchise was unexpectedly discontinued that year, with a book called Lessons from D. Isaac Thomas: Procrastination. The book would have been called Lessons from D. Isaac Thomas: Negative Attitude and would have been released on January 19, 2016. Despite the setbacks Happy and her friend Dog Crier suffered, Happy was still a positive light in a dark situation. The would-be book was also confirmed to be G-rated much to no one's surprise, two months before its cancellation.
