The D.I.T. Literary Universe (DLU) (designated as Mutantry-2001 in the D.I.T. Multiverse) is a major book franchise and shared fictional universe that is the setting of many adventure-oriented books independently produced by D. Isaac Thomas. The shared universe of the books was established by crossing over common plot elements, settings, and characters.

The first book to be released in the D.I.T. Literary Universe was The Prime Poppies (2006), followed by Journey to Planet 12 (2008), Superquack (2010), Baby Intelligence (2010), Dawn of Transcendence (2010), Pride of the Super Babies (2011), White Messenger (2011), The Coming Darkness (2011), The Rise of the Serpent (2012), Apocalypse, The Blabberish Singer (2012), Revenge of Hell Burnbottom (2012), The Fate of the Towers (2013), An Ended Generation (2013), The Man Who Talked to the Wall (2013), Annie and the Blue-Eared Kid (2014), Final Clash of Brethren (2014), Impedance (2015), Why Has The Storm Ceased? (2015), Where is the Darkness? (2015), Red Cavalier (2015), Annie and the Blue-Eared Kid 2 (2015), Superquack: Relapse of Power (2015), The Man Who Talked to the Wall 2 (2016), Band of Justice (2016), Where Are You Now? (2016), The Return of the Verasect (2017), Who Will Hold Dominion? (2017), The Latest Threat (2018), Zachary Brown (2018), Boys vs. Girls 2 (2018), What is a Bloodbath? (2018), The Inferno Relit (2019), Shields (2019), Boys vs. Girls 2 Prelude (2019), The New Order (2019), Convergence (2020), Demolition One (2021), The Diary of a Flower (2021), Morgan (2022), The Marauder (2022), Band of Justice: Omniverse (2022), Adam Catalina and the Legend of the Black Bracelet (2023), and Pink Figurehead (2023). Numerous upcoming books are slated for publication in the following years. Cancelled stories consist of Sebiscuits: Knightfall (2014) and S.M.S.B.: Mistress of the Blade (2015).

Despite some controversy, some much more volatile than constructive, the books within the D.I.T. Literary Universe have generally received critical success.

Overview[]

Reality[]

Mutantry-2001 has many of the features of our reality: many of the same countries, personalities, and historical events. However, it also contains several geographical and historical differences that have reshaped the world developmentally. A select few people have also appeared who are more than human, setting the stage for a world with superheroes, villains, and wizards.

The DLU has all the features of our reality: same countries, same personalities (politicians like Sergio Matarella, actors, comedians, and supermodels like Domino, presidents such as Richard Nixon, tyrants such as Adolf Hitler, etc.), same historical events (War of the Philistines, Trojan War, World Wars, 9/11, COVID-19 etc.), and so on. However, it also features distinct ones, such as cities like Quackville or Dorf, and organizations like the resistance movement and militaristic unification known as the Police Grand Army and its main enemy, the draconian and oligarchial NoHeads. Mutantry-2001 is the mainstream continuity of the D.I.T. multiverse and where most of Thomas' short stories, picture books, and novels take place.

Good and Evil[]

The tradition of using costumed identities to fight (or commit) evil had long existed in this world, first by Green Light in Prehistory and then by Master Intelligence in modern times. Mutantry-2001's major heroes (the ones who get involved in most of the important events) are the members of the S.M.S.B. united under Master Intelligence, the Band of Justice united under Valhalla and the Organa twins, and the Armies of Organa initially under the Organa's bloodline until Steven Thompson's tenure (although the membership of these groups can change), and Superquack, Jesse O'Hara, Annie McCallin, and Gerekrigkit (though they may opt to stay away from trouble on purpose). The Guardian Angels were an ad hoc team formed by Troy Zonko to help her deal with major menaces to the star system, often including the Organa twins and the self-proclaimed Resometh Negator — actually a gladiator eager to help. The Final Alliance came together under very similar pretenses, the intention to oppose the evil Genesis.[1][2][3][4]

The House of Akkeitus are the rulers of the planet Saturn and have a squad of law enforcers comprised solely of relatively young mystics that never leave the planetary capitol; other scenarios have featured D.I.T.'s supernatural/horror heroes such as Troy Zonko and Wrath Knight.[5][6] The Phoenix Squad[7] and the Maelstroms also fight injustice on a relatively wide scale. Shortly before the New Order surfaced came the Protectors of Tomorrow.[citation needed] There also exist various "street level" heroes who wage more personal wars in their own sphere of influence far from the globe-spanning activities of any of the aforementioned organization, from vigilantes to what some call "third-class superheroes".[citation needed]

Of course, as one would expect in a universe with superheroes, there would inevitably have to be crime and evil, and this universe is by far no exception, such as the case with Zira Miranda Grover perhaps better known as the Magistrate, who posed a significant threat to the Armies of Organa as well as any government or civilization in the Sol System which were manipulated into submitting to the rule of the International Alliance against their will. The Magistrate has the record of most heroes fought, and while she does not fight any of them physically and has her own methods, her prominent forces have fought nearly every hero in the Sol System including Green Light and the villainous NoHeads. Other major villains include the terrorist organization known as the NoHeads under the Dark Lord known to some as Mr. Stupid NoHead are the archenemies of both the Police Grand Army and the S.M.S.B.; the wanderer Longfellow and his band known as the League of Wretched Worms,[8] the psychotic Emily Watson who led the Girl-Team by corruption, and the evil splinter faction known as the Cavaliers of Thornton,[7] archenemies of the Armies of Organa as well as the governmental agency I.D.E.A.L.; the Order of Manta, enemies of both Lucy McCallin and Jesse O'Hara; Mr. Baby Tutu, the Outriders, and the Time Army under Jamboga the Unholy, archenemies of Superquack, Morgan, and their friends. Pomp the Pestilential, who did unspeakable things to the innocent to gain centuries of life, and the far more evil Genesis, who posed an extremely real threat to transform the entire universe back into one of everlasting night despite his ultimate triumph over all of existence being short-lived, were the sworn enemies of the Band of Justice. In the future, many dangerous adversaries such as the Unifiers and the Daughters of Nebelon continued to threaten our reality. Another huge threat is the enigmatic yet influential Brotherhood, led by the extremely powerful, mysterious, and almost godlike Black Queen, who suffered a setback from the Union of Ladybugs and never faced a real fight with the Syndicate and is still at large.[3][9] Other villains such as Potty, Sam Cornelly, Minister Maggot, Wesley the Worm, and Cara Mota operate on a worrisome scale as full-fledged criminals.[10][11][12][8]

A degree of paranoid fear against mutants exists due to stories of mutants being a race or even a species (Homo superior or Homo sapiens superior) that is evolving and is meant to replace normal humans (Fobbles or non-mutates). This has caused organizations to form to deal with the problem, who can be divided into three camps: those who seek peaceful coexistence between mutants and Fobbles (the S.M.S.B. and their affiliated groups), those who seek to control or eliminate Fobbles to give mutants safety or dominance (the Dark Flame and his followers, as well as other mutants such as Nebelon),[5][6] and those such as Don Rice who seek to regulate or eliminate mutants in favor of humans.[13]

Origin of superhuman powers[]

Most of the superhumans' powers come from an unknown source. Very few undergo an extremely sacred and evolutionary ritual to become a user of magic, the objective is to gain magical powers and everything that comes with them. However, the process is almost entirely unknown to humankind, assuming they actually know it exists. Even those who do know often fail to make the required sacrifices. Meanwhile, some humans develop an "x-gene" in their genes, which sometimes activates naturally, resulting in sometimes superpowered, sometimes disfigured individuals. Such a being is called a mutant. Others require catalysts (such as radiation) to cause their powers to manifest. With the exception of psionic abilities, these powers are usually random; rarely do two people have the exact same set of powers. Such a being is called a metahuman. The majority of the public is unaware of what may cause superhuman powers.

Mysticism is an extremely vast, mysterious, everchanging, and eternal concept that gives people enlightnment and binds the universe together. An enigma, it is unknown where it comes from or even entirely what the conceptual idea actually is. Those who channel mystical energies are usually bound to an oath or calling. Such a being is called a mystic. At any given time, there is a mystic on either Mars or Earth whose task is to protect the universe against extra-dimensional mystical invaders; this mystic is known as the Commander-in-Chief, a rank Troy Zonko had at one point, and formerly her old mentor.

Other origins for superhuman powers include genetic manipulation or bionic implants. Some heroes and villains have no powers at all, but depend instead on hand-to-hand combat training or advanced technological equipment. Technology is slightly more advanced than in real life; this is due to unique individuals of genius intelligence merging with deeper levels of science. However, most of the very advanced devices such as powered armor and death rays are too sophisticated and costly to be widely used, usually finding their way into the hands of politicians or royalty such as the U.S. Government, or powerful criminal organizations like the NoHeads. The robotics industry is also much more prosperous than our own.

  • Primordial Flow is a leftover force from the Big Bang, and is controlled by the Resometh to create the Matter Projector and presumably other sophisticated technologies as well.[1]
  • Extra-dimensional space are dimensions which can be tapped in order to pull mass from them, to add to objects on Earth, or take away from those objects and be stored in those "pocket dimensions" to be retrieved later. (Note that a giant named Karan the secret ability to manipulate gravity to handle her increased weight.) The change in mass can be in the form of a density change instead, allowing a character to become harder or incorporeal. Some characters can seem to "transform" themselves (or others) into nonliving substances, or even pure energy, by storing their bodies in extra-dimensional space and replacing them with bodies made from matter or energy from that dimension, while their souls remain on Earth, controlling their new body. Needed Evil knows of this process and practices a ritualistic form of it called Enotsesrok to give their soldiers almost limitless strength at a grim cost. Travel into other dimensions can also be used as a way to "teleport" by exiting the Earth dimension and re-entering it at a different point, without actually having the superpower.[14]
  • Psionic energy, which is assumed to be an invisible, unknown form of energy generated by all living brains which has the ability to manipulate other forms of matter and energy, for which Master Intelligence uses to strengthen his mutation significantly.[5]
  • Universal psionic field is a force present everywhere in the universe, but only those such as Elizabeth Muun with abilities to connect to it can make use of its energy.[4]
  • The Spatial Energy Force is a force which can alter reality, allowing the user to do whatever he or she wants (including breaking the laws of physics), only being limited by how much energy they can harness at one time. It seems to be part of the universe itself although its wielders and source are entirely unknown.[citation needed]
  • Magic also appears to be like a form of energy, except that it can defy the laws of physics naturally. However, it does have rules of its own to follow, which vary with the method of invocation, usually in the form of spoken spells and sometimes conceived potions and witches' brew. Most people are unaware that magic actually works.

Non-Human Races[]

In addition to mutants, several other intelligent races have existed secretly on Earth. These include: vampires, wandering bloodsuckers who have made some controversial contributions to society; goblins, who have faced similar prejudices yet remained in society regardless; merpeople, water-dwelling hybrids who permeate the oceans; and elves.

There are hundreds of thousands of intelligent alien races in known space (the local group of galaxies). The Sol System has interacted with many of them due to the fact that a major "subspace warp" happens to exist in the Milky Way. The Proximans are a prominent race in Andromeda, for instance. The Tsurb, the Makkans, and the Eeidarians are three well-known races who dwell in the Milky Way.

Also abundant are legendary creatures such as gods, devils and the members of the tribe for which Nebelon was once a member.[4] The ‘gods’ of most polytheistic pantheons are actually powerful, immortal human-like races from other dimensions who visited Earth in ancient times, and became the basis of many legends (obviously not all such legends can be true, since they contradict scientific facts, as well as each other).[8] Besides mythological gods, a small handful of deities made up by D. Isaac Thomas exist as well, such as Earrus. Note that many persons and beings have falsely pretended to be gods or devils during history; in particular, none of the ones claiming to be figures from Judeo-Christian beliefs (such as Satan, God, or the Angels) have turned out to be the real article.[15] According to Odin, King of the Asgardians, cryptically implied that the lords of the various pantheons may possibly gather in groups throughout the Multiverse. Nevertheless, the gods never openly meddled with humanity, and most people today believe them to be fictional.[16][8][4]

Dimensions and time[]

Several dimensions coexist simultaneously without affecting each other directly, ranging from the Earth-like to the totally alien. Some are magical in nature, while others are scientific and may not draw other dimensional power at all; some are populated and others are vacant. These include realities like the Microverse, the Astral Plane, the Sector of Curiosity, and many more. Another noteworthy feature of this universe is that time "branches out" creating new alternate realities when certain important events happen. Those realities can also spawn realities of their own. There exist hundreds, probably thousands of such realities. For the most part this does not matter, as most beings are unaware that this occurs, or even that their universes were recently "born" from another.

History[]

Prehistory[]

The universe was created when the Big Bang took place, leading to the formation of the Milky Way in 13,800,000,000 BCE. The Resometh, who had originated in a vast, primordial darkness that existed prior to the creation of the manifest universe, where their lord, Genesis, had once reigned absolute and unchallenged, lost everything. Billions of years later, the Earth formed.

Several intelligent races evolved, but most died out, replaced by new ones as time passed by.[9] As several species became dormant, they began to fight. Legion became determined to conquer humanity as they spread their civilizations across the Sol System and strove to corrupt them with violence, inducing his light counterpart, the Lumiking, to create the Halo Guardians to spread love among Mankind, countering Legion's influence.[6] The first recorded mutant, Green Light, was born parentless along with four other entities as the first humans in existence. He and his siblings, Yellow Light, Red Light, and White Light reproduced many times, creating many humans. Unfortunately, the four entities separated. As the Naraja became the prominent race, wizardkind began to rule the planet, with minimal resistance, and they called themselves the Prehistoric Global Government.[17] The Martian land wars came and went.[9] In the mix, Nebelon feared separation from her primordial tribe and entered the Carrion Glade, which twisted her and turned her own family against her.[5]

Millennia past[]

Millennia before the Common Era, Genesis sought to harness the power of the Eye of Remembrance to finally plunge the entire universe into darkness as it was before life was breathed into it. His attempt was foiled by the forerunners of the Proximans and led to him being buried alive within a fallen tower.[9]

Due to an abrupt evolutionary change, mutants were born with superhuman abilities sustained by the mutation in their cells, and they usually manifested at or before the age of five.[18] Two grave robbers that appeared during ancient Egypt thousands of years ago triggered their mutations, causing mutantry to course through their blood.[19] For centuries the people lived in peace, governed by noble wizards and protected by mighty superheroes, with both cultures thriving on each other.[citation needed] Unfortunately, in 2579 BCE, several mutant scholars began using their knowledge of mutantry to pursue power, leading to the beginning of the Mutant Wars heralded by the evil Lord of the Stone, who was born less than a century after mutantry was discovered. Peace-minded monks that survived the destruction in Missouri established the first Knights in 2573 BCE.[19] With mutants exposed to the world in irrevocable ways, an acceleration of the mutant gene finally made a species of them. By the time of rapid globalization on Earth, groups of mystics had already grown in number and taken up studying the different schools of mysticism. The ancient order known as the Order of the Mystic Specters covertly safeguarded humanity from mystical threats.[6]

Centuries past[]

Growing distrust on the part of Fobbles for mutants compelled the two greatest mutants of the age to found Superhero School. Valarie Lethletera waged war after her point of view that only neurotypical mutants should be allowed into Superhero School was dismissed.[18] This separation of the two cultures continued and grew over the next 700 years. The knowledge of several mental disabilities also faded away.[17] A cult formed not long before Lethletera's revolt made out of the followers of Metta whose purpose was to bring Metta back, becoming the Legions of Metta under Lethletera herself and Lady Xamera. That cult would endure when Helgoth became their new lord.[19] Much later, Crodela became a national and international event, eventually becoming such a huge part of mutant culture that International Crodela Cups were frequently held and attended by thousands.[12]

The mutants are governed by the Council of Mutants (sometimes referred to as the Deviant’s Council). While the relationship with the Fobbles became more distrustful, mutants reached out to others of their own kind. There was growing discrimination among mutants against other beings, such as elves and goblins.[13][17]

With the coming of the Renaissance and the increasing reliance among Fobbles on scientific reasoning, the break between the mutants and Fobbles was becoming more and more complete. Each culture went on to create their own civilization: social structures, economies, governments, etc. Each borrowed a little from the other as the years go by but it became apparent that the Fobbles must be kept ignorant of the existence of their mutated kin for their own good.[20] Some Fobbles persecute their mutated neighbors, others try to exploit mutant powers for their own gain and for quick fixes to their problems.[2] However, pre-America still has court mutants.[13] With the intolerance of Fobbles came a growing prejudice among some in mutant society in favor of the purity of psychology.[20]

During these years, Elf Rebellions broke out all over America, and (perhaps not coincidentally) NYC Hospital was established.[13] Fobble persecution reaches an all-time high, and it was very dark times for the mutant community. The governments of the mutant world met to consider solutions to the crisis and create the PROM of 1723. This not only completed the separation of the two cultures but also laid the responsibility on the various mutant governments in each country for maintaining the secrecy of everything from Crodela games to dragons.[20]

Over the years, for non-magics, wizardkind became the stuff of fiction and legend and sapient mutation became virtually unknown, lost to history and known only by those in hiding. By 1750 the governments from each country assumed responsibility for the control and secrecy of their local mutated flora and fauna. Mutant families begin to cluster around small towns all over America where they find relative safety and anonymity.[12]

In the 19th century, giants were facing an increasingly limited amount of space to live in, and so they warred amongst themselves, bringing their species to the brink of extinction. In response, Adam Catalina surfaced in the 1840s. Unfortunately, his victory against the giants was soon interrupted by the Soul Eaters.[13] In 1881, Superquack was born.[21]

20th century[]

By this time, the shattered forces of the Legions of Metta, who had just lost Mr. Devilish NoHead, their current leader, struggled to maintain its war effort against the rising momentum of the government. In the 1930s, the Knights not only suffered a decisive defeat over the Appalachian Mountains,[18] but the mutants and Fobbles lived in harmony once again thanks to the Treaty of America signed by an international body of nations following the end of World War II in 1948. They had previously done everything they could to put a stop to depression years and racial disharmony in Europe.[20] The Giants, most of whom had supported the Knights of Metta, retreated after that.[22] Still, nothing could prepare them for the reign of terror caused by the NoHeads.[23]

Prejudice against Fobbles and the ideas of neurotypical supremacy was still very strong. These sentiments were manipulated by the NoHeads as they attempted to take over control of the star system. The Giants, most of whom had fled, returned. A new and more efficient conqueror, Mr. Stupid NoHead, rose, took over the Sol System in 2004.[24] Among this chaos rose several other prominent adversaries, namely the Order of Manta (who was quelled thanks to little Jesse O'Hara, who went on to become a private investigator) and the uprising of Baron Zarath (whom Sheriff Bladepoint eventually killed), but most importantly gave the Magistrate a perfect opening to create the International Alliance in her own bid for absolute power.[25][26][7] In the mix, Lucy McCallin and her friends exposed an otherworldly scam with hefty ramifications.[27]

21st century[]

The coming crash[]

In 2000, four crucial cities on Mercury were targeted and destroyed by the NoHeads' superweapon mounted within their base of operations, Centerpoint Headquarters. In response, forces of the Police Grand Army, having been staffed to operational levels by Sheriff Missile as he continued to train its founder Bladepoint, engaged with the NoHeads at their stronghold, destroying it. Sheriff Missile was murdered and young Bladepoint experienced an awakening in his connection to mutantry,[23] leading to a victory on the Caribbeans after the Ebony Orbs failed to fuse.[28] In response to an ongoing conflict between two alien cultures, the Pace Corps and Viskaa, young Morgan joined the fray with her friend Joey, who secretly served the Iron Godking, resulting in the ascension of Dorphane Giles and the Black Queen herself coming ominously closer to the Milky Way than ever before.[29]

In 2005, the NoHeads ultimately won the First NoHead War when Mr. Stupid NoHead crowned himself Emperor of the Sol System, fully reorganizing the U.S. Government as the centerpoint of the NoHead Empire.[28] Meanwhile, Potty attempted to kidnap Wayne, inadvertently causing him and Richard to become law enforcement agents.[10] Abalan, under orders from Dorphane Giles, sought out the secret enemies of the Empire and convinced them to organize to actively fight the Emperor. He ultimately turned against both Giles and Mr. Stupid NoHead, only to be captured, mutilated, and reconstructed a cybernetic assassin during a confrontation in Axis Base. Inspired by his sacrifice, the Japanese Treaty was signed, rejuvenating the Police Grand Army.[28]

With the seats of power beginning to realign, the Dark Lord sought to procure the Almataffe. Despite a number of very powerful individuals committing vast resources into recovering this object, the Pyters, a thuggish and primitive race, obtained it first. The Almataffe was soon seized by Dorphane Giles to be used as a weapon to commit genocide of a star-spanning empire. The Police Grand Army went to Superhero University, where they all executed a daring plan that saw them successfully oppose Giles, who had the Almataffe from Illiun, and ultimately place the Almataffe in safekeeping. Zygen fell during the same conflict, thwarting her plans of mosquito supremacy. Assuming the name L'smae, little Lily Elazar turned to the Darkness and took the place of Mae as mistress of the Knights of Mae. Meanwhile, the rise of the Dartus put I.D.E.A.L. in conflict with many different factions including, but in the end, they prevented all-out war and started a new specialized task force to keep the peace between man and Dartus.[30]

During COVID-19[]

In the late 2010s, numerous superheroes began disappearing, and in their absences there was a series of terrorist bombings around the globe. Authorities searched in vain for the culprit behind it, and were confounded by the series of hijacked television broadcasts that followed. The sentient AI Mr. Baby Tutu, in a bid to wipe out humanity altogether, allied himself with Chinese toxicologist John as well as the feral Outriders as he sought to unleash a terrifying plague upon all the earth: the COVID-19 Pandemic began. Superquack, along with his crush, Morgan, and his friends, Macroburst and Exogale, fought the Outriders, immobilized their gigantic, cybernetic champion, and eliminated Mr. Baby Tutu and freed the Outriders from the corrupting influence of the Power Matrix. A bird, dubbed the Warrior Chicken, ominously warned that COVID-19 was far from over.[31]

Just as the first significant progress on a coronavirus vaccine came around, the young, insane, and genocidal revolutionary Emily Watson began an evil quest to "balance" the Earth, and sought to wipe out the Armies of Organa and rule the world herself, all under the orders of the Black Queen in her guise as "the Orc Devil", who she intended to double-cross to complete her wider mandate of waging war on all the men of the Eight Worlds in order to allow her own gender to flourish. They also struck up a deal with the League of Wretched Worms and their wicked leader, Longfellow.[32][16] In the meantime, Roy and Janice Walltalker went on a perilous quest to recover a sentient Wall that had been stolen from them. Eventually, they found it at the house of the disturbed Reba. A skirmish broke out, ending with them adopting the little girl and taking the Wall home.[33] In the meantime, the Armies of Organa became destined to breed several influential young adults when they successfully opposed Emily Watson and destroyed her and the Orc devil, exposing Longfellow as impersonating General Exotorn and having the wizard Arcus curse him.[8]

That summer, the evil Mykew Hadeline, sensing humanity’s fear, returned to Earth with an army of Wraiths in search of the five Naegri. She was ultimately thwarted when the nine-year-old girls Annie McCallin and Savannah van Dukas assembled the Union of Ladybugs for an impossible mission against their extraterrestrial oppressors. Meanwhile, the Reappearance of the Resometh led to a fateful awakening. Following several rifts between dimensions, some formed cults and organizations in response to these scientific phenomena. Thanks to the riot the "Dark Ones" initiated, one cult was able to discover what they believed to be the first man in history, Genesis. Their discovery led them to excavate his remains from under a fallen tower, unknowingly awakening Genesis from his dormancy. The remaining active members of the Union of Ladybugs reorganized into the Mediators, but while they ensured their peers lived to see the morning, the genocidal and insane Lord Veyakon destroyed Westridge Elementary School.[3][34][9] Many of the students enrolled in Tower Placement School as the Armies of Organa likewise found themselves in a new struggle against the Cavaliers of Thornton, who Fern Miguel assembled to contest I.D.E.A.L. for their preferential loyalty to the Phoenix Squad. Throughout the year, they acquired new allies and saved the star system a second time by forcing the ringleader, Natalia Thornton, to fake her death.[7] Meanwhile, Golgolod was besieged by the Police Grand Army, seemingly wiping out the NoHeads for good, although the cause would endure in secret.[35]

The following spring, Superquack and Morgan, having eliminated the threat of Mr. Baby Tutu four years ago, witnessed evidence to the rise of the Time Army under the evil Jamboga Pine. Pine intended to warp reality itself to allow "the burned and the tortured" to prosper, and as such he moved to kill Superquack. The two superheroes, assisted by Macroburst and new allies swerving their ranks, challenged Pine and defeated his army of robots, but at such great cost that the war saw a partial fragmentation and reformation of mutantry itself.[21]

After Clock Castle[]

Two years later, the Armies of Organa also started the fire that would burn down the International Alliance by forcing the Magistrate to fake her own demise as well.[7] Cara Mota went on to develop numerous advances in technology and shape modern society as her business empire, Mota Corporation, grew into a world renowned supplier of technology.[36] The Demolitions found themselves embroiled in a zany adventure against a galactic threat after a surprise encounter with young Bailey Dennings and a spatial entity known as Peint, who schemed to supplant all life in the universe with life of his own creation, and once Dennings and her friends discovered his insidious sabotage of Klayton they acted on the only practical option available to them, which was to fight.[37] Although the Demolitions triumphed, the sabotage was permanent, and the Demolitions were demobilized, leading to fleet leader Ronan meeting Annabeth Black, who led the inner circle of the Dark Lord himself, the Arcanus. Disenchanted Demolition member Poe Ledsa brought togetheer the Sword of Masculinity to burn feminism to the ground, and the Arcanus took it upon themselvs to permanently silence this new menace, successfully destroying the Laboratory of Light before it was too late.[38]

Subsequently, as part of the ongoing Cerean Genocide, a man named Ansel acquired the Master Crown and began working to create the Singularity Motor using the golden relic's power. He attempted to put it to use to help a number of Saturnian refugees. Two agents, Redmayne and Kitt, confronted Ansel at a vending booth and attempted to forcibly steal the Singularity Motor. Horrified and disgusted at how his enemies were handling the presence of the virtually helpless baby Sebiscuits Cardarphen, Ansel destroyed the core and unintentionally made the oblivious baby absorb its energy. He was then kidnapped by the agents who sought to harness the energy he absorbed, and despite escaping, he was manipulated by an ally named Garett to learn at the latter's knee until he discovered the truth and helped bring down corrupt businessman Dee Croesus, temporarily becoming a suburban vigilante.[39] Simultaneously, and upon being cast out by his own parents, baby supergenius Peter Hecks rechristened himself Baby Intelligence and vowed to bring together a group of extraordinary children to assemble the S.M.S.B. to stand with the newly re-mobilized Police Grand Army.[11] In response, former advocate Minister Maggot repeatedly stole from the innocent until Cardarphen stopped him and proceeded to become the first recruit to Baby Intelligence. However, he ultimately broke away, having a very different vision for the future of humankind. Making gains in unconventional warfare, the resurgent NoHeads waged a new war against humanity, yet their lord Mr. Stupid NoHead was ultimately defeated by Baby Intelligence and the Chosen One of prophecy, Lindsay Kellerman, on January 6, 2030.[39][20][40]

In the wake of the Battle of Tsala, the star system had become a changed place. The heroes and other gifted humans became either idolized for saving the star system, or feared due to all the destruction and collateral damage caused in the process.[41] Some feared the prospect of threats from beyond the known world, but the next threat of significance was the rise of Hell Burnbottom.[42] Baby Intelligence, being scarred by his experiences in Tsala, recruited Phoenix and Telekinibabe and Optica and Hardy, and together the new S.M.S.B. came together with the Police Grand Army and, after months of bloodshed, won the war they had waged against the evil NoHeads as well as the Mettan Remnant under the charismatic Osmund the Zax, and for a time, peace seemed imminent.[12][18]

The Melanization and the Cosmic War[]

Alliances would be needed again soon enough. When Pomp threatened the peace over Proxima, Rene and Exogale was able to assemble a group of extraordinary individuals from numerous places. An unlikely company consisting of the Organa twins, Valhalla and Scarlet Fist of the Church of Oltron, extra-dimensional wanderer Trope, along with Flubberdubber, Blasto, Lode, and Merpa, stepped in to round out the new team. Despite being separated, they successfully conquered Pomp and finally came together a second time when Genesis, enraged by what had transpired, finally located the Eye of Remembrance and an invaluable ally in Wanda who helped him find his people on Vartal, leading to the Resometh attacking Andromeda outright and going to Mars to bend the very fabric of reality to their will.

The company called themselves the Band of Justice and hatched a daring plan to stop the Resometh.[9] Simultaneously, the Walltalker family found themselves embroiled in a new conflict after a surprise encounter with Walltalker's old friend, Suzie. Suzie sought to use the Basketball 9000 to destroy the Barriers of Qualogros, and once Roy and his friends discovered this truth they acted on the only practical option available to them, which was to fight. Although they triumphed over the evil mastermind,[43] their victory would prove short-lived while a planet away the Band of Justice were being mercilessly swarmed by the dark forces. By heeding the last words of his dying girlfriend, Genesis finally harnessed the Eye of Remembrance and plunged the entire universe back into one of everlasting night, leaving the Band of Justice to recover from their defeat as the Abyss returned into being, with some species adapting enormously while others began to die out. Genesis successfully framed the Band of Justice and expose Valhalla's galactic code.[9] In the absence of light and the manifest universe itself, men such as Candy Man sought widespread anarchy in the Abyss, while the Umbralord, now free of the Lumiking, used Red Mist as a puppet to bring the Apostles to dominance, only for the S.M.S.B. to valiantly triumph against these forces,[44][6] leading to a chain of events ending with the Elements jeopardizing the Earthly Plane and Sebiscuits Cardarphen bringing together the Ninth Incarnation of the extra-dimensional Vault Squad.[36] During the Cosmic War, the Black Queen annihilated this plane of existence, and the Abyss was never truly reverted. The Band of Justice were successful in their attempt to make the Deviation a reality, so even with the Earthly Plane truly gone, an alternate reality was opened up where events continued to unfold, several of which were destined to influence the wider multiverse going forward.[45]

Recurring characters[]

Behind the scenes[]

D. Isaac Thomas wrote the first book of the franchise as a kindergartener in 2006. The book is illustrated entirely with photos taken from Thomas' cell phone several years later. He would not become active in literature, however, for another two years. D. Isaac Thomas approached his brother Ammon with the idea in 2010. Ammon primarily worked on Morgan and Macroburst, while Thomas worked on Exogale and the novel's titular character. Ammon also decided Mr. Baby Tutu, the antagonist, should have a surrogate son. They frequently presented each other with ideas, some of which were much more bizarre than others, generally incorporating them into a cohesive and engaging read. Thomas also scrapped the idea early on for the novel to have a serious and dark tone, with Ammon having always wanted it to be comedic. While on an underwhelming camping trip, it was also the latter's idea for Exogale and Macroburst to be resurrected and made as major characters, instead of being martyred and staying dead as Thomas had hitherto intended. He also had the idea to make the Iron Godking a real historical figure, as Thomas once meant for him to be a myth just as Mr. Baby Tutu assumed. They based Superquack on a doll previously named "Little Quack" after a defunct franchise of short childrens' stories, while Morgan was modeled after a doll given to Thomas by his former bus driver early in 2009. The book was released on December 29, 2009 as D. Isaac Thomas' first novel, as well as his first book to be rated PG (for "action violence and rude humor") with the other PG-rated D.I.T. books being The Man Who Talked to the Wall, The Super Babies: Revenge of Hell Burnbottom, and several subsequent releases. Both Thomas and Melissa Vaine consider this the former's chance to "make or break" the DLU, hence explaining Thomas' confidence of success.

In 2014, D. Isaac Thomas had a few ideas for an R-rated novel set in the DLU, but the ideas, while written down, were ultimately shelved for "several different reasons". On August 12 2014, Thomas announced that he would be creating a book based upon the foundations of mutantry. Thomas later stated that he could not give up the idea and allow another writer to "realize the Lord of the Stone".

In March of 2015, he mentioned that he was going to create a trilogy about Sheriff Bladepoint after he was done recognizing the origins of mutation. On September 25, 2015, Thomas confirmed that he already had the rough drafts completed for the second book and had gotten ideas for the third. On December 31 2015, the announcement trailer and teaser poster were revealed for the origin book.

On March 7 2016, it was announced a batch of new characters had been created for the book. On June 30, 2016, Before The SMSB: The Promises of Sheriff Baldric, premiered.

On December 2 2016, D. Isaac Thomas announced that there will actually be four books in the Sheriff Bladepoint trilogy and that it would be a quadrilogy instead. Thomas stated he always knew there was going to be more than one book and that he "said a trilogy as a kind of placeholder". However, when he plotted out the story he had created, he realized he would need four books to tell it in. Melissa Vaine also stated that the third book will be very different from the first and second books.

On December 17 2016, it was announced that the third book will be released on March 31, 2018 followed by the fourth and final book in December of 2018.

The second book, Before The SMSB: Why Has The Storm Ceased?, premiered on March 6, 2017. Before The SMSB: The Dominion of the Dark Lord was released on November 27, 2017.

When it was slated, reports suggested that Demolition One was to center on architect Bailey Dennings and was slated for a release on January 19, 2019. Thomas confirmed the release date, but said nothing of the Dennings focus.

The existence of Convergence was announced on April 19, 2019. D. Isaac Thomas has stated that he has had ideas for this book as far back as early 2016. On June 18, 2019, two characters were confirmed for Demolition One, Adolf Hitler and Ronan. On September 7, Thomas confirmed Convergence was rated PG. On December 21, 2019, the Dark Priest was confirmed to make an appearance in Demolition One.

On January 9, 2020, D. Isaac Thomas found, in his box of notebooks, notes from nearly six years prior about his plans for what could make an R-rated D.I.T. book a worthwhile read. He immediately pitched the idea to Melissa Vaine as "an R-rated girl book including Bailey, because I was thinking, ‘Teenage Bailey needs friends.’ Bailey loves interacting with people, and I've got some great ideas for her past that don't involve kicking ass and taking names". Vaine considered the matter and responded with "Part Five is going to some really weird places. I'll definitely have to give it some thought, so it goes without saying that whether or not I'm getting involved is certainly indefinite." Thomas, however, confirmed the focus on Bailey Dennings. The novel was also confirmed to have an R-rating, being the first R-rated D.I.T. book ever written.

On March 12, 2020, a character named Poe Ledsa was confirmed, along with the theory that he would not likely be a one-time character in Cosmic Convictions. Later, Vaine said that she "could not put the script down, it had so much dark humor like a lot of my jokes, and the themes of female empowerment are very strong and relatable". Simultaneously, Convergence was released on April 6, 2020.

Demolition One was launched on February 10, 2021, and Morgan was launched on February 9, 2022.
